Each year for as long as I can remember, I’ve gone on holidays to stay at the family beach house at Bilinga on the Gold Coast. It has been in the family for generations, the land was bought by my great-great-aunts/uncles after the War and has been passed down through the family over the years. The house has changed over time - there are some great photos up on the wall that show what it looked like 80 years ago, and the various family members enjoying their time at the beach. Sadly we’re coming to the end of an era, increasing costs and taxes etc have brought it to the point where the family can’t afford to keep the house any long, so it’s on the market to be sold. Chances are we’ve just had our last summer holiday there, and I’m feeling a bit sad and nostalgic!

It’s a teeny little beachfront ’shack’…

As a child, I remember staying there with my grandmother, great-grandfather and my mum and brothers and sisters. We would stay for a week or 2, and Dad used to come down on the weekends after work. There was no TV, so we played board games, did lots of puzzles, and learnt all sorts of card games. I remember the boredom of being a teenager, stuck with no phone, no friends, no TV, having to go with my nearly 100yr old grandfather when he went for walks to make sure he didn’t fall and hurt himself. At the end of highschool I spent Schoolies week there, stayed there with a bunch of friends when I was at Uni. That was a lot more fun!

In the last 12 years it’s come a full circle and I’ve enjoyed seeing my own children having fun on the beach, doing all the things I used to do.

I’m going to miss the place once it’s been sold!

very cryptic statement isn’t it, lol, and one that has been perplexing my 6 yr old son ever since his 9 yr old brother said it to him earlier today!
Despite being officially closed this week, I’ve been working hard getting a couple of orders finished for ladies due very soon! I had intended to post photos to show how industrious I’ve been, lol, but my frazzled brain is obviously not working very well right now, and I forgot to take the photos before the orders got packed up! Now that they’ve been picked up by their new owners it’s too late, and you’ll just have to believe me that I’ve been very busy!
The house looks like a bomb has hit (hmm, nothing new there!) and I have a *lot* of prawns to peel in preparation for Christmas lunch (yep, I’m procrastinating - why else would I be here blogging!)…
but all the presents are wrapped except two - one I need to go back to the shops tonight to exchange part of it before I can wrap it, and the other just needs all the threads snipped and a label sewn on (what do you give a baby for Christmas? a cloth nappy of course! *giggle*)
I’m too tired to cook, dh is still at work, so the kids are getting a treat tonight and pizza has been ordered. So I guess I’d better go and do something about picking it up…
Have a lovely Christmas everyone!

Yep, you guessed it, we’ve all been hit by the winter sniffles that have been going around. It is truly amazing how many tissues a family of 6 can go through in a week! (been trying to convince them that hankies are a good alternative, but not having much luck yet!) Things are getting back to normal though now, which is good, because last week I felt rather like I’d been hit by a freight train!
The good news for the week is that microfleece is back in stock! YAY!!!
Thirteen gorgeous colours to choose from - details and photos will be up on the website in the next couple of days, once my internet is no longer speed-limited (but that’s another whinge altogether, so I’ll save that for another post!)
Finding space for all the rolls at the shop is going to be an interesting exercise though! *giggle*
I’ve also got minkee/Malden Mills fleece covers in stock at the shop, again details should be uploaded to the website very soon! Otherwise feel free to email me for details.
And last but not least, there’s some new products that will be available at the shop soon - Popit nappies, from NZ, and a range of ribbon goodies from Ribbonista. Oh, and a few special products from Pookey Pockets will be previewing at Ozebaby later next month, so stay tuned…
