Each year for as long as I can remember, I’ve gone on holidays to stay at the family beach house at Bilinga on the Gold Coast. It has  been in the family for generations, the land was bought by my great-great-aunts/uncles after the War and has been passed down through the family over the years. The house has changed over time - there are some great photos up on the wall that show what it looked like 80 years ago, and the various family members enjoying their time at the beach. Sadly we’re coming to the end of an era, increasing costs and taxes etc have brought it to the point where the family can’t afford to keep the house any long, so it’s on the market to be sold. Chances are we’ve just had our last summer holiday there, and I’m feeling a bit sad and nostalgic!

It’s a teeny little beachfront ’shack’…

As a child, I remember staying there with my grandmother, great-grandfather and my mum and brothers and sisters. We would stay for a week or 2, and Dad used to come down on the weekends after work. There was no TV, so we played board games, did lots of puzzles, and learnt all sorts of card games. I remember the boredom of being a teenager, stuck with no phone, no friends, no TV, having to go with my nearly 100yr old grandfather when he went for walks to make sure he didn’t fall and hurt himself. At the end of highschool I spent Schoolies week there, stayed there with a bunch of friends when I was at Uni. That was a lot more fun! ;)

In the last 12 years it’s come a full circle and I’ve enjoyed seeing my own children having fun on the beach, doing all the things I used to do.

I’m going to miss the place once it’s been sold!

Yep, here we are in the New Year, and so far, it’s just been hot hot hot! School holidays are in full swing, the kids are all ‘booored’ and the airconditioning and fans are working overtime! I have to tell you, I can’t wait for our annual beach holiday (only 8 days to go, and counting!)

We have a number of changes that will be taking place over the next couple of weeks, with a new name and new website coming into effect. Hopefully the changeover will happen without any hitches, but we all know that the best laid plans often go astray, so please excuse any glitches that may come up in the process! If at any stage you are having problems contacting me via email, you should be able to reach me on 0419 144 689

Wish me luck! :)

By Lesley from Cherub’s Kiss and I’ve only just found out about it when I was reading her blog tonight! I really should keep up with things better!!

OK, so apparantly these are the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Seven facts about me.

1. I never wear shoes. Honestly, ask anyone who knows me!

2. I used to have black and green hair. It’s boring brown now, and has been for ages, but one of these days I’ll get around to doing something exciting with it again!

3. I hate housework. Especially having to do the same things over and over again day after day because they don’t just stay done, dammit!!

4. I love reading, but since my internet addiction took over, I haven’t had as much time to read lately!

5.  I changed the spelling of my name when I was a teenager. The teachers at highschool used to joke about taking off marks on exams for spelling my name wrong (haha, sooo not funny!) but I eventually did it officially by deed poll when I was 18. Why bother? Well, when I was at primary school there were 2 Rebecca’s in my class. (under 30 kids in the class) At highschool, there were 5 Rebecca’s in my year level (out of about 75 girls). I just wanted to be different (yep, that’s a recurring theme in my life!) so I changed it to Rebekah. And yes, I’ve spent the last 14 years correcting people when they spell it wrong!

6. I studied music at university for a couple of years, but never actually finished the degree. :(

7. I’m missing a tooth - one of the ones between the front teeth and the pointy teeth. (ok I know it’s probably got a real name, but I’m too lazy to Google it!)

So there you have it, 7 things about me.

And now I have to come up with 7 other people to tag, which is way too hard for this time of night! So I’m going to post what I’ve written so far, and update the post once I think of some people to tag!
